recent prints; square portraits; even more pics 2/21

Did you shoot color as well?

I shot a single roll (24 exp) of 35mm color; mostly snaps of dinner time in the sweet cabin we were staying in and a few sunset pics (see my only sunset post in the themes section). The beauty of the ocean sunsets seduced even me, a total bored-with-sunset-pics party pooper.

On the other hand I shot 14 rolls of 120 BW (HP5 400 and Tmax 100) with the Ansco Titan (12 6x6cm frames on a roll) and a Zeiss Ikonta C w/Tessar lens (8 6x9cm frames on a roll). And I shot about 10 photos with my 4x5 Anniversary Graphic. There is nothing wrong with color, BW is just my thing.

To be honest, I didn't get a lot that I'm all that excited about. But there are a few really good images and I'm still exploring the others. Some of them have started to grow on me.

prints from last night

Here's why I should always assess from contact sheets instead of the negs. I prefer the composition and pose of this shot to the one above, and it's much sharper. I didn't see it at first when looking at the negs.

My brother lives in Denver. He was back for the holidays. Late one night after the bars he was telling me some crazy story about how folks in Denver think that the exhaust trails left by airplanes are toxic or weird or something... I can't remember, it was after a lot of beer. anyway, the next day on our way to the Spencer Museum of Art on the KU campus we noticed these trails and stopped to take a pic.

Matt: you do such nice work. I must say the one of your brother stands out the most for me. No doubt about it, I have to lay my hands on an orange filter; this is an excellent punched up B&W.
