I've been on the verge of putting in a large order of photo gear and I keep running into problems. Hopefully this is my last problem. I wan't to buy into a certain filter system or size, but I can't determine which. I was looking into the Cokin filters, because they seem to be popular and aren't too expensive, but it seems like the filter holders cause a lot of vignetting. Is there any way around this with Cokin filters?(the widest I would shoot would be 10mm on a crop sensor) If I do have to buy something different, do you have any recommendations? Also, If i were only to buy 1 nd filter and 1 gnd filter what optical density should i buy?(assuming .6 but might as well ask.

I shoot with the cokin p-series filters, and on my full-frame I start to see the edges of the holder at 24mm. As far as actual vignetting goes, I havn't noticed any. I'm really thinking about upgrading to their z-pro series since they're a bit wider, but that will probably wait until I get my 17-40mm. I would strongly suggest getting the .3, .6, and .9 GND's, but I also have to admit that I typically use my .6 the most. And if you plan on shooting anything more than the beach with them, make sure you get the soft gradation.

Thanks for the response. I forgot to mention the edges of the filter holders coming into view. It is another big worry of mine at 10-13mm.

I used to have the Cokin 85mm filters but sold it when I got the Canon 10-22mm UWA lens. I get vignetting at 10mm to about 14mm. To lessen the vignette, I shoot at atleast 16mm. If you want to eliminate that totally, get the larger z-pro100mm filters and holder.

Lee square/rectangular filters are the best based on my experience
