Red Eft

A Red Eft drifting quietly in a Vernal Pool. Most people would recognize it

more easily if it was in it's short lived bright orange, terrestrial coloring where it goes by the name Red Spotted Orange Newt. After a couple of years it returns to the water, re-grows it's gills and spends the rest of it's life looking like this.
