Redo of the leaf "1"

Neither are edited

I'm happier with the one on the right, minus the lighting and two shadows, but I'm not completely satisfied with either (I know the left one's "1" is not perfect. I plan on redoing one more time, and then just calling it quits with this idea).
I need some help with composition, time of day to shoot (left was about 130pm, right was about 330pm), cropping the picture, etc. I hope it's not asking too much...

Also, please let me know which one you like more.
