Requesting Lighting and Portrait C&C

hahah, none of my edits are coming out right, i apologize

Hey, JW: One of the things we have to deal with in a setting like this is that everybody's monitor will be a little different. My edit looks good on my monitor, while yours looks dark. I did, however, desatch the color a bit, as I described, then brought it back on the eyes and lips, for a stylized look.

I have my monitor matched to my Epson R2400 printer, and the brightness is set at about 50%. I know others run a higher brightness. A lot of LCD monitors are really bright, too, and I've heard people have difficulty calibrating them and their prints come out dark. Finally, as Vice pointed out, the photo hosting sites (like Photobucket) will flatten the pics a little. All things to consider.

Check out my YouTube video, then tell me whether it looks too dark, too light, or just right to you (disregard the soft quality which is what you get at YouTube).

Sorry for the belated reply, been very busy of late.

The edits are really great, everyone, thanks heaps. jwsciontc I know what you mean, Photobucket + TPF washes out all my photos too. I think I'll get a Flickr soon.

Themaze, thanks for the advice, I actually picked up an SB-26 (obv doesn't TTL w/ my cam) and it's been great thus far. Yet to get reflector/umbrellas etc, but working on it. Planning on getting another SB-26 (they're great slaves) and an SB-600 along with respective light stands, reflectors/diffusers and all that jazz second hand. Here's a real quick 5 minute test I took last night just with the on-camera flash at 1/128 used to trigger the speedlight:
