Well put, couldn't have said it better myself.

I think this one is interesting, and I suspect that the toning plays a key part on the mood it conveys (without seeing the colour version I couldn't know for sure though). I think the flow would be vastly improved if you flip the image horizontally – my eye finds it almost unnatural to follow that wire from left to right if I that also means to follow it from farthest to closest. I hope this makes some sense.
