Romance tips for the romantically challenged.

The simple things that go a long way:

Make her lunch for her before she goes to work. (Complete with "I love you" note.)
Do laundry/dishes/house work.
Listen when she talks.
Always treat her respectfully.
Be where you said you'd be, when you said you'd be there.
Occasionally choose to spend time with her instead when your friends had something planned.

Everyday romantic dates:

Make dinner.
Massage oil (need I elaborate?)
Ice skating.
Trip to the pet shop.
Bike ride.
Flowers (I know, cheezy, but I've only had one girl give me flowers, and I still remember her.)

Over the top:

I kidnapped my wife for her birthday one year (before we were married) by telling her to pack for 3 days and then blindfolded her. I drove around in circles until she got lost, and then drove 3 hours (isn't she a good sport?) to where her best friend from HS was going to school. We had dinner, and then went gambling on the casino boats.

Proposal: Got her work to put her on the schedule (but not really) all weekend. Then when she left to go to work on Thurs night, I hurriedly packed her suitcase for her. When she got there they sent her home after a little bit b/c she wasn't needed. She got home and got changed just in time for us to leave for the airport. (She thought we were going to dinner.) Imagine her surprise when we got on plane to San Francisco instead!! LOL Toured the city the first day, drove up to Napa Valley the second. Went horseback riding in a vineyard, where I popped the question. Flew back the next day. She was soooo surprised. Her work helped me out, her sister let me use her credit card so the reservations didn't show up in our mutual finances, and I planted dirty evidence for a trip two weekends from then. She was totally snowed. It was great!

For 33 years, before I draw my first full wakeing breath, I say "Yes Dear, I'm sorry, it will never happen again". She calls me an F'ing lyer and I say it again 3 times. This takes us up to lunch time where we start all over again. I have found this the best way to survive in a loooonngg term relationship. The second tip would be to understand that once you say the magic words "I Do" you will never be allowed to be correct again, as long as you live. We have a calander in our home, I mark on it each time I am allowed to be "Right" and I mark it each time I can confirm Cathy is wrong. In 33 years, I had one mark on a calander once. But I was mistaken.
