I consider myself a rookie still working my way to novice. I still have issues with composition mostly. Here are a few I've taken recently that i do like. What do you think.

Not bad...I would say that you are well beyond being a rookie. Most of my comments are more nit-picks, but you did ask for comments...

#1. Best of the bunch IMO, maybe a tad oversaturated, but that depends on your monitor and whether or not it is calibrated, mine is calibrated.

#2. Not too bad, a little heavy on the green - would be nice for us non-flower types from the Great White North to know what these first two images are...

#3. DOF is a little "small", but I guess that is what comes from these types of shots - are they macro?

#4. Not bad, but again, the colours seem to be a little oversaturated. I haven't decided if I like the bee or not, although it is a nice effect, unfortunately, because it is such a different colour, it does tend to draw attention away from the flowers.

From a compositional perspective, don't forget about the "rule of thirds", although I don't like the term "rule' myself, that is what it is called. For example, #3 might have been a bit more effective, in my opinion, if the fruit had been a little more to the left and leaning into the space on the right. For number 4, I would have put the flower a bit more to the left and then the bee would have been seen to be moving toward it. Make sense?

For us that tend to be curious about other folks images, it would be of value to know the camera and lens that you used, together with the ISO, exposure...

Anyway, I would encourage you to continue "working your way to novice" as you put it, although, as I said, you are probalby getting there faster than you think

Thanks WesternGuy.
I have no idea what these plants are it's just me walking around the woods shooting. All of these were taken with my Sony A55 and 18-55 kit lens with a +4 close up filter. So I guess they're not true macro if I understand that term correctly. Probably not :)

1&2 F/11, 1/160sec, ISO100, 55mm for 1, 50mm for 2.

3) F/6.3 1/500sec, ISO400, 55mm.

4) F5.6, 1/250, ISO100, 55mm. This one was really an accident. I had know idea the bee was there. I was just taking a test shot and saw it when i went back and reviewed.

Thanks for the info. About the bee - good things happen and sometimes we get lucky...I always try to take as much advantage as I can when this happens ...would be interesting to see how this image would look if you decreased the saturation a bit, and cloned out the bee...do you shoot raw?

Cheers,
