Roping in Kalispell Montana, shot with 1D2 70-200 f/4 1/30 ISO 3200. The arena has very poor lighting, The fastest I got it to go was 1/125 wide open ISO 3200. I kinda like the way this one came out.

And yes, he is in focus, and that's what matters. He and the most important parts of his horse ... and the action shows nicely through all the motion blur in every other part of the photo.
 
my roping pics are in focus from head to toe, but i use strobe lights. iso 200 shutter speed 800 and f5.6 as a general rule. but your position is different . I that a better angle that sells.
