Hello Everyone

I'm off to New Zealand in March with a few friends. We're going to be doing some pretty mental stuff, rock climbing, white water rafting, bungie jumping and a few other crazy things.

I'll be taking my much beloved D700 and a back up D5000. But I'm looking for a rugged camera something I could take down the rapids or up a rock face and not have to worry. I hear the GoPro Hero HD Camera Review would fulfil this niche.

Does anyone have one? What do you use?

Cheers

The Go Pro HD Hero is AMAZING for video. But not so great at freezing motion if photos are what your after. It will only get a fast enough shutter speed for freezing motion in direct sunlight.

But for video, you'll love it. Check this video out.

I'm going to buy one soon for mountain biking.

What's your price? A weather sealed Olympus or Pentax with camera armor might do the trick, but then you're looking at purchasing another camera and lens/es. A Pelican case maybe?

Probably looking at about $250 dollars roughly. Really leaning towards the HD Pro! It looks really awesome and I can imagine doing a great video at the end of our trip! I'm salivating already :D

Cheers for all the comments alread

it might be a daft sugestion, and you might not like the idea, well, some might not,but why not look for a cheap weather proof/resistant Film slr.pick them up for cheap, and you wont care if it gets damaged, plus you'd have full creative control.

But the HD Pro does seem to be a viable option, could clip it onto the front of the raft,or on a helmet or something

Not super cheap, but this camera is incredibly tough:

As tough as it is we've gone through 3, and our latest caused a stir last weekend when we took it a few meters underwater and came up fogged with moisture in the lens. But it's still alive :)

You still need to treat them with respect. That said they are the perfect candidate for the above.
