Rule of Thirds Question

The reason it's called rule of thirds, is because you divide it into thirds. Not just three.
Three equal parts AKA thirds.
The lines never change.
 
Just my two cents here, but I was taught by my photo 101 teacher to ignore the rule of thirds lol
