This is the latest in a set of images I'm putting together about rural life in Bruce County.

I think farms are so insanely important but we sometimes forget and they become mundane to us, just part of the landscape as we drive past towards our destinations.

One thing I wish is that there was a cool weather vane on the peek of the barn roof instead of the lightning rod to represent the "cross/symbol" of the building, otherwise I achieved what I wanted in this shot. I will continue to look for a barn/silo that has that element but for now this will do ;)

Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks for taking a look!

Morning coffee bump ;)

I really like the photo! What cliches it for me is the missing board, the way it echoes the silo, and the way the uppermost window mirrors the rounded top of the silo. It's a tall, skinny photo, which is a bit different from many straight 3:2 aspect ratio shots. If there is a nit to pick , it might be that the very dark sky is a bit close in tonal value to the silo's roof. Regardless, I still very much enjoy this photo.

Very nice Pix. I love the tones of the photo.

Super shot..very aesthetically pleasant. It's perfect for black and white also. We share the same love of barns and barn wood. I have a whole collection of barn wait shots since the wife is from VT....the most barns per square foot I've ever seen. Awesome picture!!

Good shot but I have to go against the "grain". The barn is unbalanced to me, highlights and windows are all on the left side, a lot of dead space on the right. No biggie I'm obviously in the minority, but I was just wondering why it fell a little flat for me. Then again, if there was a tractor parked on the right side it would be perfect. :)

Thanks so much all!

T, I bumped to get it back in the current threads because it went almost a day with no action ;) I have no shame! lol
That's a great image at the link! VERY dramatic and such mood! I am definitely on the lookout for opportunities like that ;)

Alan, thanks for your thoughts on how to improve it!

This is a driveby shot (taken from the car at 100km/hrish lol) I've changed my method a bit and have specific ideas in my head that I'm looking for, I've been looking at barns a lot and trying to get different "feels" this one I was going for a "church/temple" feel with late day light. I will carry all of your thoughts forward into future shots, thank you!

Great photo!

Don't ever do what the above "cropper" did....he/she cut out all the stuff that makes this shot interesting;) or at least half

I like it, I like the way you have positioned the silo behind the old barn, and the old timber cladding gives it texture, I have a set of pictures of an old ruined barn in England, they always make for a good photo if the light is right, and these old buildings are dissapearing fast.

Not sure I agree 100% with Charlie's cc, shapes, lines, and texture can be interesting enough for some of us. My major problem with the crop is it probably doesn't coincide with what the OP was trying to capture. Admittedly, I tried several crops myself but they changed the orginal too much and it became a matter of personal taste.

If I had the tools/skills I think it would be interesting to flip the silo to the right side. Just curious how it would change the balance of the shot.
