Hello,

I took this shot a couple of weeks ago just outside Riyadh from the top of a dune at sunset, but, sniff sniff, I didn't get it sharp. What settings were not correct in the camera?

Also, how can I make the sun sharp? I've seen in some photos, the sun doesn't spread over the photo and create spots.

I would've 'started' with F/11 or higher for a sharper picture and greater dof, a shutter speed of 1/60th and ISO 100. If the picture were too dark then bracket and raise the ISO a little at a time but I wouldn't have gone over, say, 1000 ISO, I would've instead lowered my shutter speed (on tripod) to let in more light and made adjustments with the shutter after that if need be. GL! (in the future)

I can't recommend any setting without being there. I just recommended a way to make sure the image is sharp. The look she wants maybe a component of spot metering the sun, bringing up the shadows in post, and applying some kind of fancy sun spot preset. Not sure as she doesn't link us to any examples. Her photo is not sharp to begin with so what I recommended would settle that.

Agreed, no clue as to whether that pic was handheld or not.

Without knowing the settings, i can only assume that it was arounf a f 8 to 11 if manual.

Too soft for anything lower.

Otherwise its a nice picture.

The exif states it was @ f/2.8 and 1/4000th a second and ISO 100. It needs a much higher aper to choke out the direct sunlight.

I didnt see the exif, but yeah. A 2.8 made the sun totally bokhe.....

That would also explain the distant dunes.

Irregardless, its still a nice shot. Colors are nice, and given the focus was down and to the left, reframing it would obviously change the tone but make IMO a different and unique picture.
