Scanner glass fogged from the inside

Last night while scanning some film I noticed the glass could use a good wipe down as it was looking a little foggy from some left over cleaner or whatever. I wiped it down but the inside of the glass is fogged as well. I went ahead with my scanning without any issues (vacation photos) but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this before? It doesnt really look like you can access the inside very easily but I would like to get it clean. Its a cheap CanoScan 8600F I bought off of craigslist for 40 bucks so Im not too worried about it but again if its pretty easy Id love to get it cleaned up.

I'm not sure if I would try to remove the glass or not. If you have a tight box that is large enoygh to fit the scanner you can try putting it in ther with some dessicant for a few days or maybe even a week and see if it can draw out the moisture.

turn it upside down, pour some distilled water in there, and swish it around until it washes away the foggy parts.

im not sure its fogged due to moisture though. I think its just from being dirty or maybe some old cleaner (like when you use windex and it dries leaving white residue) from someone getting in there before. If it helps at all ill grab a pick of it when I get home.

I have an older CanoScan at home. If you can post a pic of yours and it's similar to mine at loom at mine and see how difficult it is to get the glass off. I'm usually pretty good at disassembling things for repairs.

this is on the inside of the glass. the top was the same but it wiped off just fine with a micro fiber cloth

That does look bad. I'll put out my scanner tonight and see what I can figure out.

thanks! Im looking at mine and I don't see an obvious screws or anything to get into it. Im sure I could pop some of the plastic apart but Im not sure if thats how you're suppose to do it or not. Im use to working on cars not scanners haha

Ha! popped the silver side off and now I can see a screw on the front.

Edit; push the silver sides forward to pop them off which also pops off the front pieces revealing three screws. undo those then with the top closed, lift just the top out of place which reveals two more screws in the back. undo those then separate the glass top from the bottom. It seems to still be sticking in the middle section of the two halves. Not sure if I should just force it apart or not.

Edit2: if you put your thumbs in the back holes where the lid slides into then pull back, it will pop off.

Glad you figured it out. I was just getting ready to look for mine. Were you able to get the gunk off? May want to leave it open for a day in a very dry area to air out as well.
