It all depends on who is asking you.. Some photographers will pay their second shooters, and others consider it a service to you...an apprenticeship of sorts. Some photographers will credit your shots to you when showing them to the client..Most will assume that all images you take are the property of their studio and you will not be given credit whatsoever. You should really sit down with this photographer and in a professional manner ask for a detailed explanation of what is entailed when they take on a second shooter.

It shouldn't be like a paying gig, it should be a paying gig. Your remuneration will depend on the calibre of the wedding, the price that the main photographer commands, and your skill and experience. Decide in advance what you feel would be a fair hourly rate and don't go below it. Make sure that you have a contract in place with the main photographer that describes your duties, rate of pay, expectation of performance, and image use rights.
