I like the shot. I wasn't there and I know you said your were trying to get it as close to what you saw but just my personal preference (It's ok to think it's rubbish) but a graduated filter and 1 stop lighter with exposure and a tiny bit cooler and then a half stop down globally with exposure makes it pop. Again just my opinion and if you ask my wife I'm always wrong anyway. It was hard to work with that tiny JPEG too. May look different with your RAW file.

Its rubbish! haha no just kidding, looks good. I did pull a -1 stop soft filter over the top for the sky. good call. I just exposed for the rocks.
