I felt like playing around with my homemade shutter release, so I took this.

I only have one speedlite that I bounced off a white sheet that I put up. I lit up the rest of the room with lamps.

Not bad. The only thing I really don't like is that you have two different colors of light on you. Yellow on the right and white on the left. The yellow light is also casting a minor, but noticeably sharp shadow on your shirt/neck.

I would say use a different background colour. Your hair gets lost on the right side. Good job, though :thumbup:

You don't need a different colored background, but you do need another light hitting the back of your head to separate it from the background. Another trick is to light the background directly at head height for the separation.

excellent focus and detail. I didn't catch the two different color lights until arcooke pointed it out. Otherwise nice shot.

Nothing wrong with black hair lost in a black background necessarily. It can work well in some situations. I like the darker mood of this, if you used a hairlight it would change that I think.
