What's new

Selfie LOL

K, you need to take some new shots...just sayin lol

More helifreakers, cool.. You guys might like the first one ha ha

Here is a pic of the clamp on lights, there were around 8 or 10 bucks. and i remember the bulbs being around 10 bucks, i don't know much about bulbs but they say 1600 for light output. One of them in my ceiling light really lights up the room but things kind of look washed out on peoples skin. 2 clamp lights bounced off the ceiling is just enough light. a 3rd one would probably be nice, I am sure the size of the room would also matter, I do not have them in a large room.

I also have a couple of halogen work lights i got from harbor freight that work really well but they will blind your eyes out if pointed at a person out so i would prefer not to use those unless I can make some kind of soft box type thing for them but i have been to lazy.

A lousy video editing program I bought a while back came with a green cloth for a green screen, I have a power rack for weight lifting, iIthink i can hang the screen from the power rack. I might take my lights down there and take a few selfies and see how it goes. I also have a nice dark grey sheet i could hang as well. it will be fun to play around with. heck if it works out well i might see if i can find someone to model for me.

OK, watch the background and be more creative you say, This is just a quick test i did, my hair is messy, just got done working out, did not take my lightning down there just turned on one of the big hanging florescent lights that we have in the basement. and what not. again this was just a quick test. turned out alright i guess. i would need to fix the wrinkles in the thing but i just wanted to snap a few quick shots and see what happened.

You're too close to the background and have your lighting illuminate it. In post #13 above I was at least six feet away from the background and none of the lighting was directed onto the background. That would make the difference.

I like the pose of the second photo, but methinks you are rolled too far forward at the waist. Albeit, this may be the proper defensive stance, photographically you appear in a submissive posture with the rounded shoulders. Also I would have liked to see the left elbow in the frame, but unfortunately that probably would've meant we would be viewing your right nipple. I'll take the clipped elbow. :biglaugh:

BTW, you might need to give a NSFW warning with that tat. :)

well i had a glove on one hand, a remote shutter release in the other. I am not really in a defensive stance, just kind of leaned forward and put a arm up, if i would have had both gloves on I would have got in a better stance. I think you are over thinking my pose here, its just a quick test shot :beaten: lol. I used to box when i was younger. I never competed just hit the boxing gym and sometimes I did some friendly sparing with other people there where no one is actually trying to kill the other person lol.

i was probably about 3-4 feet away from the back drop, like i said i just used the ceiling light in the basement that is about another 4 or 5 foot in front of where I am standing, there was another light right above the backdrop but I unplugged that one. I will take my lightning down there this weekend and see what i can do with it.

I am not sure it will do well in such a large room but might. I want to get one more of those clamp lights that way i have 3 of them to play with, I honestly know nothing about lighting so that is going to be a whole new adventure. any advice is appreciated.

this is the room i have to work with, with all the junk down there it is not really ideal but its what i have.

I think you're under-thinking the value of purposed practice or at least haven't given it considered thought. Nothing wrong with that in the early days, but as you progress and want to produce quality "selfies", pose is a huge consideration, right there next to lighting. Look for yourself at the two you've posted in this thread. Can't you see how much more dynamic the second one is over the boring FB type of the first? Why is that? Lighting and posing.

Just my 2¢. Keep practicing.

Its not just going to be for selfies, eventually when things are coming out really well i would like to ask a few people to model for me.

the fist one is not anything special, I like the second one. I went into light room and used the brush to make the background almost pure black. With the green background I think the photo looks a bit more three dimensional, of course using the brush to make a black background and having correct lighting on he back drop may not be the same, But I don't know for sure. what i did here is not perfect but it was just to get a idea of how it would look with a almost solid back background.

Ill post both here so they can be seen back to back

The question is, how do you keep the light from illuminating the backdrop. I took my lights down there and in that big room they were not bright at all. I moved them all around and no matter what the back drop was illuminated.

This was the best I could get and you can see its pretty dark in there. Maybe even though the light is not bright maybe its not soft enough, or I am just doing something wrong. I did not have the lights pointed at the back drop. but its still lit up, and from the looks of it I will need brighter lights.

i just use the self timer this time so focus was a bit off. In every lighting tutorial i have watched they all have the light pointed at the back drop and it is illuminated.

Edit.......

Since this is turning into a lighting equipment discussion and I now want to figure out what kind of lightning set up would be good, I am going to ask about the actual lighting equipment in the lighting section.

if anyone else wants to tell me why my photos I posted here are good or bad please carry on with that but this is probably not the proper place to ask about the lighting equipment.
