Selling Your Work

I think the title pretty much says it all.
I know that the best way to go is self promotion, and to get yourself noticed.
But what I was wondering was, are there any good online sites that can be used to reach people to sell your work?
But are there any sites that offer a range of products, that can be reasonably priced (some that I have looked at, you end up with an over-priced product), and that will not charge a monthly "subscription fee"?

Personally, I think the biggest thing that has worked for me is investing in my own website and submitting my website to other sites that give lists of sites/categories that people search.... and then learning SEO (search engine optimization), and getting in on some good searchable key words...

That's just me though
