Sensitive NICU Photographs

So many posts, too many to respond to. I have looked at a similar site to Now Lay Me Down To Sleep and it's something I might like to do in the future. I have a hard enough time just being in a NICU right now so those might be beyond me for the time being. I don't know if I'd be able to keep a level head so it'd definitely be a learning curve but definitely something I'd look into once I'm in my own business.

But again, I don't plan to be a professional photographer at the moment. I KNOW I'm not skilled enough. Just trying to get there!

I actually have a friend who does free NICU photos and that's where the idea kind of started. I would never charge for a NICU shoot, it'd be like sm4him said, I'd be giving back. I feel like I owe those nurses my world (which I do, without them my daughter wouldn't be here)

I was really worried I was going to get backlash for posting these. They're such personal pictures that I almost didn't post this.

In the future, and probably tomorrow or next week, I'll post more pictures that I DO want critique for. More Chloe pictures of course, she's my favorite model. :P

Thank you all for commenting and being sensitive to the subject. I appreciate it. <3

Aedai - my daughter spent the first few days in NICU for a hole in her heart and a week in the CICU after her heart surgery a few weeks later. I would have LOVED if someone like you were around. I think i have one picture of my daughter in CICU and none of her in NICU because i felt guilty taking the photos because i felt like she was broken and it was just too emotional. I give back to my fellow heart defect parents by passing out teddy bears with bandaids on their hearts, and the giving back makes me feel better, makes me feel like its giving the ME from 4 years ago a big hug. So I applaud your idea and think its a great idea. I'm so happy to hear your daughter is good now. Mine is as well but I will tear up in a second when I think about how i felt back then. I wish someone like you was around for me 4 years ago. <3

Look up Capturing Hopes Photography. They do exactly what you're wanting to do. Non profit NICU photos.

My daughter was born with a heart defect and after open heart surgery to correct it, I took tons of pics in the ICU. With my $100 P&S camera. She is 6 now and healthy, and I still hold onto those pictures. It's where we've been, and what she's been through. Someone may say they wouldn't want to remember it and since she lived the pics have less meaning, but not to me. Not that I could ever forget it anyways, pictures or not.
