Does 'Set Picture Control Setting' affect both raw and jpegs or just jpegs? what setting do you normally use ? and any specific reason for using that setting?

Thanks.

It only affects the camera produced JPEGs not the RAW files. The data stored with the RAW files may however contain the info which could be applied later by the RAW converter to create or re-create the camera JPEG -- depends on which converter is used. Typically the converter supplied by the camera manufacturer can do this.

I avoid all such camera settings and shoot RAW only.

I could be wrong but I think that the camera effects that are enabled also affect the embedded JPEG thumbnail that is in RAW files. Since that is what is seen when the RAW file is previewed it would give the impression that the effects have been made to the RAW file. In reality it's just a mask that can be turned on or off when editing the RAW file.
