So I found myself a black sheet, and some lights (regular household lights, 60w bulbs, natural color lighting). And thought I'd try taking some pictures. I hung my sheet with some ducktape, laid it out across the floor, and started shooting.

Although after about 10 shots, my batteries died, so I'm waiting on them to charge.
But while I'm waiting, I took a look at the few shots I'd gotten so far, and noticed they weren't coming out anything like what I wanted them to be.

This is just one of the shots, (Yes I know it's out of focus, I'll be fixing that once the batteries are charged), but notice the background,
how do I make it a solid dark black?

(Probably use paper instead of a faded black sheet right?)

Is there a way I could adjust the lighting to make it better?
I'm a newbie with this stuff,
so help would be amazing ^-^

( I feel like I'm spamming the forums with my noobiness, sorry =/ )

Move your subject off the background, and create light modifiers to prevent light from hitting the backdrop.
