Settings when shooting on moving subjects

Hi I recently purchased a Sony A7m2 and would like to learn as much as possible to use it in manual mode. I need an advise from an expert on what settings should I set the camera to capture pictures of people running.

Running straight TOWARD the camera, 1/250 to 1/350 will stop most motion. Running directly across the frame 1/500 to 1/800 is fine for almost all the body, but may leave the tips of fingers and the feet a bit blurred.

There is no one, exact setting: depends on direction of travel AND size/magnification/distance of the subject. A smaller subject, you know, from farther away, can be stopped well with a much slower speed than a half-body shot that fills almost all the frame with a person from waist to head.

In addition to what Darrell said, if you want to give your subject a sense of motion, work on your panning.

The Sony a7x series aren't the greatest cameras for fast action photography because the AF speed and tracking ability just isn't there yet. As a beginner it is likely that you're going to struggle with this a bit. I'm not saying it can't be done but a DSLR would make it much easier to get good results. But don't be discourage by this as I'm sure with practice you should be able to increase the number of keepers. Setting the correct AF settings will be crucial.

Shutter speed, shutter speed, and shutter speed. Even that selection depends on the lens, as a longer lens will need a shorter exposure (higher shutter speed) to freeze the action.

Then you want to experiment with slowing the shutter down to intentionally capture some motion blur. Maybe a little is kinda cool, you never know until you find it.

But keep aperture and ISO in mind, too. If your shutter requires a very large aperture, you'll end up with a shallow depth of field, maybe TOO shallow, at which point you'll need a higher ISO.

All of the settings have to balance for good exposure, and all of them have a different effect on what gets captured.
