Since no one commented this most be a southern thing. The shot is a close up of a Pecan tree in full bloom. Pecan trees are self pollinating, containing both male and female flowers. The long droopy chain like, Catlins are the pollen producing male flower. If you look closely up in the leaves at the termination of a stem are spiked star like Pistillates, the female flower. Pollen is transmitted by the wind. While a single tree will produce nuts, the yield is better if there are multiple trees/varieties for cross pollination.
