Sharp close-up focus. Help!

You may be closer than the lens can focus.. Try going to manual focus, turn the focus ring all the way to the closest focus it can do, then physically move the camera closer and further from the subject while looking through the view finder to find out the distance where the subject is in focus.. however far the camera is from the subject is the closest distance the lens can focus. You may need a macro lens to get close enough for the small detail shots.
