Shooting fireworks?

I am getting ready for the fireworks tomorrow night.
Can you give me some general advise (Canon 400D and 17-85mm lens).

If I were you I would just hold down the shutter button. For the majority of the fireworks.

Unfortunately the cops didn't let me get to my spot, and then there was a massive, fat lady in front of me who didn't want to move - complete disaster!

Well, there is always next year.
