shooting horizontal with tripod!

I use the same bracket with the hex plate, and love it.

While most all tripods would let me tip 90 degrees, if there's a heavy lens attached, it wants to spin the body on the mounting screw.

The L bracket has a lock pin to keep the camera from spinning without having to really crank the mounting screw.

Of course, as they said, you'd need a head able to accept the square or hex plate...
 
I have a Manfrotto 190XPROB and it lets you shoot portrait orientation by pulling up the center shaft and turning it horizontal. Love it.
