Shooting in D.C.

With all the security issues, are there any special hassles for the photogs when shooting in DC?

Can tripods be used at night? Or does security chase you away? Do they require certain permits?

The hassles for photographers in D.C. are mostly safety related. There are more assaults and muggings in DC than in many other large northern US cities. I would shoot with someone else and consider a high quality pocket camera rather than a DSLR in some areas of the city, particularly at night.
