Aperture priority most of the time.

Manual for studio and macro.

Shutter priority for long glass to avoid vibration blur...adjust ISO to bring it into exposure if required.

I think Overread summed it up well. If someone is taking the same style all the time, then they'll likely stick in the same mode.. but if they're varying the styles a lot then the mode will change.

What exactly is P mode on my D40? From what I understand, it's like one step below full Auto, but I'm not sure that's correct.
