Shooting Sunsets with Nikon D-40

hey i have to do a project that requires me to take photos of the sunset over a period of a month or so, and i use my brothers Nikon d-40 and i was just wondering if its safe to do this. i don't point the camera directly at the sun i shoot it off to the side a bit

basically is it safe to take pictures of the sunset with that camera

yes. Your foreground will be black if you are exposing for the sunset, but if its for a project then it doesn't matter too much.
