Short 15-20 minute session

My friend Elliot was pressed for time, but needed some acceptable headshots for his professional career. He's an outdoorsy person, so he wanted to be in the woods with green and earthy tones. Total setup and shoot time was about 30 minutes total.

C&C welcome.

both closeup are fine....in third, i thought, he wud have stood near a tree with shoulder support and hands crossed, or as suited like one on his waist....
The lighting in first and third is well controlled, and Rembrandr like....U setup flash heads?

I think the first is the best, sharp, good dof - altho perhaps the shadows on his right could be bit lighter and I would crop it much tighter to the tip of his left shoulder to remove that empty space on the right and give more intimacy to the picture. (perhaps a bit red)

The second has a bad shoulder line where his shirt bunches up.
The third is a boring post and the center of interest - his face - is at the very top.

As far as lighting and composition goes, the second is my favorite.

I don't recognize you with the new avatar. Throws me off every time I see it.

Oh, I like the second one best. He doesn't look completely comfortable in #3, or ... Not sure, feels like he's kind of just - there. I'm sure I make no sense.

the second one is the best in my opinion. his face is evenly lit but there are still shadows to provide dimension and your friend looks relaxed and in the moment while in the first shot he seems to be uncomfortable, which creates awkward tension.

I like #2 the best as well.

I like #2 the best. Lighting good in 1 but 2 more appealing. His right arm looks cut off in 3.

I like the first, I think his right side could have had a little more fill light. Two is good. I think I agree with the above comments on three, could have leaned on a tree or something maybe pull your flash down 1/3 stop. All in all its a really good set, he should be stoked on these.

I like #2, you can't really see his clothes and he looks relaxed
Why was he wearing that for the shoot? doesn't exacly look professional tbh...

#2 overall. #3 looks like he's waiting for you to tell him what to do, but on the other hand, to me it has the most 3D pop to it. Great job on this one separating him from the bg.

First one I think the shadow could be a little lighter. Nice separation and nice white balance. He is not pink:thumbup:. I think a tighter crop would work better.

second one, Much better use of light but not crazy about the pose and his shoulders the way the bow in. Focus you sure nailed it!

Third. Not crazy about that green branches on the right side it feels like they should have been left out and they are sharp which is odd. The left tree by the top left could have been left out maybe if you took a few steps to the left. I am not crazy about his hand position he seems a bit timid. his face seems a little over exposed on the left side and then there is the shadow on the right side that is not working for me.


With all that said 30 min for set up and pictures who can complain...
