Plenty of interesting elements, not laid out well enough to make a good image. Always try for other angles on any shot.

Actually, I quite like it. I think the placement of the flag in the center of the image makes for a nice focal point. I always like doors in images, so having the subject walking out of the frame though an open door leaves a bit of mystery in the shot. Where's he going? What's he buying? Is he coming or going? We don't know. I also like the vertical lines in the center of the image.

I agree with Mana that there is a lot going on in the image, and that may not be for everyone's taste. But I think you've made it work. I like it, and I like that it's B&W, I don't want the emotion from color here.

Your first question is "Should I change?", but change what, exactly?

The composition? The processing?

Your second question asks for opinions, so here goes: It seems that you have not settled on a subject, as the general clutter of this scene is not very well composed.

Since I'm not good at photo editing, my comments tend to be more in the area of what I already see there.

I don't see low contrast - plenty of light tones and dark tones and also in between tones.

I would have moved the camera somewhat to the right but kept the composition much the same.

This was definitely a first shot. I was walking around town attempting to do a school project and this came upon me. Ive had mixed reviews on both the color and monochrome version of it. I can put the original in here also to compare if needed. Thank you all for the opinions though!

Nice image, I like the 'as it happens' shots, and don't care a lot for a shot that looks too set up and planned, reality isn't set up and planned, it just happens.

It's not about "Setup and plan"(ing) the elements, it's about moving into a position and/or waiting for the elements to align in a way that works as a composition.

I really like the depth of this and the feel, it makes me think of "Penny Lane".
