On so many levels.... Take the job.

I was unemployed for two years and did everything from retail to shuffling cars at a dealer. I would have loved to have a photo anything job during that time.... At least it's along the lines of something hat might be enjoyable for the short term.... Makes the pride and smallish check hurt a bit less. Id say it builds character too...

Oh one more thing... I actually spent more money when I had no job to report too than when I was actually occupied earning a check.

do it.as has been said, money is better than no money.

when i was working for ibm, the company we were contracting to was bought out by a european company. they didn't need ibm anymore. so we all lost our jobs.

i went home and ordered pizza.

the pizza box had a note on it that they were hiring part time delivery drivers.

at first i thought, no way. i'm a former ranger, i've owned a computer store, i've worked for ibm, no way am i delivering pizza.

but then put my pride behind me and figured any money was better than none.

i had no idea at the time that i would end up being a driver for the next 2 years, making over 600 a week. eventually moving into management for the next 2 years.and then my brother in law and i would end up opening our own franchise that i would run for the next 3 years. finally sold the store last year due to differances with corporate.

i took apart time job as a last resort. and it turned into a 7 year stint with me owning my own store.

you never know what opportunities are hidden within the most mundane of jobs.

Jobs are few and far between right now, so take the job and hope it turns into something promising just like Naptime! Hey, my sister-in-law has been out of work forever, but then she's nuts too, so.

Sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do.

Take it - it's a paycheck. Use your off time (which you'll have a lot of at only 16hrs a week) to look for a better job. It's a lot easier to find a good job if you have a steady source of income.

I don't know about Canada, but in my American neck of the woods, it's generally easier to GET a job when you HAVE a job.

Well, I had a job, making $200/month & got paid $87 on the 12th & 27th of the month. I was trying desperately to improve my lot & applied for just about anything. Got an interview with Northern Electric & in the interview it was discovered I already had a job & the interviewer tore a strip off me for looking for a job when I had one already.

That's pretty f'ed up... Like we always say at work (aviation is a very wish-washy business) "I had a job when I found this one". Why would you stop looking for a better job just because you are currently employed?

I had that too. I worked at mcdonalds and was interviewed at futureshop. When fs asked me if they could call mcdix I said no because they did not know I was applying here as well. They respected my wishes and I still got hired.

Simply put.... That's the type of management you would not want anyways. I have delt with similar... The type that plays political games and act like they own you... He same that act like you owe them for letting you work there. The same type of attitude that comes from a high employee turn over that it breeds distrust and lack of employee respect. They don't like employees with that pullem by he boot straps and find better jobs because they know they have so little to offer.

I had one that tried to pull that bs when they found out I worked as a contractor on my days off keeping two jobs. Their salary sucked , worked weekend shift with nothing extra, and they pretended like a 1.5 percent raise was acceptable after being ranked top performer. They shuffled my schedule and increased my hours to make me stop. I ended up getting a full time position with my second employer for almost double. I loved handing in my resignation and telling them double plus 10% if they want me to reconsider.


When you have a job looking for a new job backed with a good skill set, they can't undercut you because you can always walk away from he table. It makes negotiation more complex. Most accept this as the nature of business, others simply to dumb to deal with it.

I worked at a Sears portrait studio before I started doing photography on my own. They (some studios not all, I was lucky) will teach you posing, sets up, lighting, it can be very informative. Plus you already have an interest so you can bring your own ideas and unique style to the studio.

Take the job, but don't confuse an in-store portrait studio with having a high level technical aptitude. From what I've heard from friends who've gone to those places, they focus more on sales than great photographs.

Lol, agreed, that is really f'ed up logic; we don't WANT people trying to better their situation... crazy.

I've had kind of the opposite problem tho'. In 2005, in a span of 4 months, my dad died, I lost my house (not due to late payments; it was sub-let by the lay pastor whose parsonage it was, and the church laid HIM off...), AND got laid off from my job, which I'd had for 5 years and gotten nothing but stellar performance reviews for...political situation though, and honestly, the job was literally making me sick from stress. Ended up, at 44 years old, living with my mother, me and my two young teenage boys, in house really meant for two. And looking for a job. Everywhere. Including Walmart, McDonalds...anywhere. Most everywhere like that I applied I was told I was "overqualified." What the cr*p???! Sorry, we can't hire you, you KNOW too much!! Lol...

Finally took a job that sounded just awful, working for the city's public transit system. Six years later, I'm still there, I make way more than I did at my previous job, and I mostly love it, because I have been able to turn the job into all the things I love to do--editing, graphic design, social media and photography. It is truly a custom-fit job!

MOST of us have had those hard times--you are either GOING through tough times, just past them, or ABOUT to have them!, You just do what you have to do to survive...including part-time jobs at a Walmart photo studio. TAKE THE JOB, and just be glad you're not flipping greasy burgers. No offense to those of you who may be flipping greasy burgers...
