^^ if it is, results could be interesting, potency varies but experiences are similar to zopidem (etc) without sedation; a novel deleriant with pronounced, dreamlike visions described as "watery" and substantial synergy with cannabis. Typically prepared by roasting over a low heat, recycling juices back over the meat in order to convert ibotenic acid to the active metabolite muscimol.
A. Muscaria is rumored to have had ancient shamanic use throughout Europe and central asian hunter-gatherer society, considered by some to be Soma as mentioned in Vedic tradition, with substantial debate. Other fringe theories also exist. In northern europe it has been rumored to have been consumed via animal urine, as muscimol does not break down in urine. I have also heard that elevated levels of muscimol in urine exist in schizophrenic patients, though I don't the veracity of this.
Of course, it could be some other mushroom which could kill you as it is unreliable to identify a mushroom from a photograph alone. Unlike traditional psychedelic mushrooms, A. Muscaria is considered toxic, and in very high doses can result in death, though this is highly unlikely. Some even claim that they are edible when boiled twice and water discarded. Both Ibotenic acid and muscimol are very water-soluble, iirc.
