shutterspeed question

I'm happy there is a beginners section because I have a question that I'm glad I can't show my face when I ask.

When looking at the small LCD on top of my 20D, it displays all information. With regard to shutterspeed, I understand when it says 60 or 200 or 6, I get that that is 1/60 of a second and so on. But when it says 2"5, what does that inch symbol mean?

You're right about the single digits meaning 1/X of a second. When the " comes in it is then counting in actual seconds instead of fractions
