Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX OS HSM question

I've heard of there being a focus issue with an owner, like that it'd lock up and rattle when auto focusing it. The owner predicted that it was probably when they tried manual focusing it on accident when it was in AF mode because they had forgotten that it is not capable of being overrided. If you have any knowledge of this proclaimed "amazing" lens, can you tell me if you've ever accidentally done this and whether it wrecked it to this extent or worse? I have accidentally done stuff like this with my lenses occasionally and have never experienced any problems, so I'm hoping that this one is durable for that kind of accidental abuse.

Oh, and the owner of it said that he/she had got it fixed and thanked the 4 year warranty.

Definitely looking forward to getting this lens after my telephoto!

That lens in particular? No, but...no lens should be broken by something as common as cranking the focus while in AF. My bet is that whatever broke was something entirely different. It may have been coincidental to cranking the focus, but not a direct result of it.

I have the Sigma lens you mentioned. The autofocusing seems to be noisier than with the camera brand lenses, but on the plus side, it is very fast and accurate. Image quality is better than my 50mm prime.

I have that Lens and never had any issues like that.

The HSM is pretty quiet.
