Hey everyone,

I've been having a really hard time finding some definitive answers regarding this decision on which lens to get. I'm very torn between the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 and the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 lens. Anyone have any experience with the Sigma lens on a Nikon body? Or recommend me a lens within the price range of $400-600. I primarily do street photography and outdoor landscapes.

I would go with the 17-50 because it has a fixed aperture so that's one less thing to worry about. Nothing worse then trying to get a shot quickly and your exposure changes because you zoomed in and the aperture changed.

I use the 17-70 on my Nikon 5100 and love it. It's a great all purpose lens for vacations or just walking around. You can focus pretty close too although I think the macro designation is a bit misleading. I don't find the non fixed aperture to be an issue as most of my lenses are similar. The only thing about the Sigma lenses is that the zoom is backwards when compared to a Nikon. That can be a bit confusing at first.

Here are a few taken with the 17-70 on a recent day at Disney:
