I received this lens today and am now wishing I would have bought the canon as a result of the focus and other turn thing being extremely difficult to turn. It's almost like turning a jar lid you cant get open.

Any one have this lens? I wanted to use it for video on a canon 5d mark ii, but imagine this problem will cause camera shake when focusing.

If you own this lens, has it released tension with use or no. Does the canon feel this way too. Any thing I should know about the lens. I do not receive my camera til about a week.

Thanks for the time.

is the "other turn thing" the aperature ring?

if it is, they typically lock at f22 so the camera can adjust aperature itself.

Strange. I have this lens and have never experienced what you're saying. Good luck, anyways.

It's the focus and (focus length ring? 24-70 ring) that are extremely difficult to turn. It's not smooth like the sigma 70 to 200. I'm hoping it eventually become smoother as a result of not wanting to pay for the canon. Although I hate knowing that there is something better.

It should be smooth out of the box, the Canon is worth every penny

Gsgary, have you shot with the new sigma. As for the canon, I've watched many videos on vimeo that have astonished me and begged me to buy it. Going the route of the sigma sigma first in order to be able to buy a flash and pw for the 5d mark ii, seemed like the better option for me currently. However, I'm pretty sure I'm sending this baby back and buying the canon, which always makes me feel better. Does feel good to get a third party lens and end up liking it though.

When you zoom in on your lens is it smooth as butter or is it pretty stiff? Do you have the new hsm version or the macro? I only found one person on amazon who said that theirs was stiff. I'm wondering if this is just my copy or if I should go with the canon.

Yes it is..

However, first I would like read other people's experience with the lens to conclude that this is not a feature of the lens and is actually a problem. I purchased it from amazon as a result of how flexible their return policy is. I'm hoping this is just my lens or the rotating rings take some time to become smooth as butter. My sigma 70-200 is smooth, but it's also "get ready for the wrong words" a in house zoom construction. This particular lens, when you zoom, extends from the frame and increases in length.

It's incredibly smooth, and always has been. A few of my friends also have this lens and haven't experienced this problem, so possibly a minor defect?

It should be smooth right out of the box.

Sounds like pretty typical 3rd party lens stuff. There is a reason 3rd party gear cost less.

The manufacturing tolerances are pretty broad and sometimes the tolernances add to a bad copy. Plus, they save money by not doing QA (Quality Assurance) as often.

I would never buy a Stigma lens
