Sigma 28-45mm f1.8 DG DN Art...

You can cover that range with your feet. If its not at least a 4x zoom its not a zoom.

Hmmm... I think the jury is still out on this, so that is why we need you to pony-up and grab one of these so you can be our resident reviewer :) . The author did seem impressed with the f/1.8.

I'm pretty sure it would still be brand new in the box for a few years though till I figure out what to do with it...

Really not sure what to think of this thing! What are your thoughts..?

While I have some lenses wider than 45mm, they probably get used less than 5% of the time, 50mm full-frame equivalent being the widest I normally use. So this Sigma would be useless for me, but I can see the appeal for those who like to shoot wide. Covering 54° to 75° at f/1.8 is a rather impressive zoom range, especially with the stated prime lens performance. I've never seen an Art zoom, but I tested a couple of their primes a few years ago and thought they were excellent. (For various reasons, I went with Zeiss Otus, though.) I think the 28-45 will probably sell pretty well, and may stimulate the competition..

This clearly aimed at content creators and video.

If it were 24mm on the wide end I'd be pre-ordering. It would save me from changing 24, 35, and 50 primes repeatedly. Not every situation involves simply moving your feet.

I had mostly Sigma Art lenses when I first started doing photography. The build quality is sensational and I never had any issues.

It's an interesting lens for sure, especially when f1.8 primes are very compact on Sony. The little tiny f1.8 Samyang's come to mind.

Indeed, the 28mm end definitely leaves a bit to be desired for a photographer. Bring in breathing compensation for a videographer and it starts to get a little painful.

I have a nice Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8, but it spends most days just sitting on my desk. I just need to take a day where all I take with me is that lens, which would force me to use it.

Challenge yourself the next time you go out mate!

I do that with my little Sony 40mm sometimes on the street. But funnily enough, 90% of my street images are between 35mm and 45mm anyway, so it makes no difference to how I shoot... 😄

Wide lenses are great for museums or displays where crowds (people) are a problem. You can get close enough to stop 95% of them from walking in between you and the subject. I use a 17-28 on FF regularly for just that reason.

I'll do that the next time I get an opportunity... if it ever stops raining around here. There are some classic city halls and court houses as well as old downtown areas that I keep telling myself I need to go after. But the rain this year... 😂

Given the aperture range (and reported sharpness) it would make a nice general use indoor lens. Documenting family life, weddings, birthdays, could use it. The 28mm wide limit is safe for most flash units. Well, if you use a ceiling bounce. I think most low cost flashes aren't "safe" wider than 35mm.

As a long time fan of 16-35mm lenses, I second that!
