I don't really want another crop sensor camera.
I think it would be a waste of money.
My next camera will be full frame.

I'm not sure what the D7000 is compared to what I have now?

Not a bad plan either. But, upgrading to a D7000 is definitely not a waste of money. You can more reach than a FX and it's ISO capacity is VERY close to a D700. Plus tons and tons of other things that I'm not about to type it all out. You can research that yourself.
