Here are a couple shots from a photo session I did last fall. C&C?

Hello,

First of all, I like the expressions you have captured, adorable!

But as to the negatives that I think detract from these pictures:

First picture

* I think it needs a bit more contrast and colour
* The background does not accentuate or compliment the colours that the child is wearing, and isn't very nice to look at. Some nice orange leaves in the background or a tree would have been lovely and given more of a "fall" feel to the pictures.

Second Picture

* I think her skin is blown right out, along with the scarf she is wearing
* I think she has too much contrast and looks even more odd with the background looking more natural/neutral
* I think cutting her arm off in the frame looks odd and there's too much space to her left, perhaps taking it vertically would have helped and included more of that interesting looking chair she's leaning on.
* Again, I think the background lacks interest and complimentary colours.

I think the first picture is definitely the better of the two and would have been a very lovely picture if the background wasn't dull.

I agree, number one needs the contrast brought WAY up!

Number two is blown out. I don't know how to save a picture when that happens.

the urban photo, here's roughly how I would lean towards editing the first picture:

I changed levels to add more contrast but brought the blacks up a bit so that it wasn't too dark, I dodged her eyes and used the burn tool on her cheeks a little, added some vibrancy and saturation and did a bit more adjustment with colour balance.
