I tried out the free version of Portrait Professional and its pretty cool but I didn't think it was all that great. maybe I just haven't given it enough time yet? anyone recommend anything else to try out?

I have tried Nik Software, it does a decent job, but as I take mostly nature pictures, I do not use the skin smoothing filter very often.

Portrait Professional does a good job as long as you keep the changes it makes very subtle. The software is still very primitive in the fact it attempts to full alter the features of your subject to the "text book" look of a model fitting the preset parameters. Of course, you can tune it manually, which is what I would advise if you're going to use Portrait Professional. Keep the changes subtle and nearly non existent. Be careful with the skin smoothing, because the software has the tendency to make your subject's skin look very plastic-y.

I use Alien Skin's Image Doctor 2.0 for skin smoothing, which is a photoshop plugin.

With the right tools and features, you can smooth skin with lots of image editing applications.

I agree that Imagenomic's Portraiture is about the best dedicated portrait application available.

Thank you guys so much! I do not like the look of super smoothed skin. Looks fake so ill do what I can to improve the image with out over doing it

Imaginenomics Portraiture is great. It is my life saver. I use it all the time. You can do a little or a lot.

Portrait Professional looks "canned and fake" in my opinion. Portraiture is the way to go. I do a bit of clean up on my images using healing brush/clone first, then run a very light skimming of portraiture. If I need more smoothing, I can do more smoothing. If I need less, I can do less. If I want more just on the forehead, I copy my layer, run portraiture, add a mask and tada! Total customization!
