Slidecam on a budget!

Hi everyone,

I received ton of useful tips on this forum, so you guys definitely rock! I'd like to invest in a slidecam (slider), I don't know the exact name. I looked at Varavon Slidecam lite800, but I was wondering whether there any other, better alternatives. I don't need a huge slidecam, I will mostly film smartphones and tablets.

About the price range: anything below £100 is acceptable, but if there isn't one good slidecam for under 100 pouns, I'll wait and save a bit more money.

With the many, MANY DIY solutions out there that are so cheap and easy to make, and work just as well, I wouldn't personally ever buy something to do the job, if I felt the need for it.

Hi there, thanks for the videos! The only problem I have with DIY is that I don't have any DIY equipment, which makes it very difficult.

What "DIY equipment" do you think you need for this sort of thing? It's basic tool kit stuff like hack saw, pliers, screw driver. You can pick those up for pennies at any garage or yard sale, for no more than a couple pounds/dollars at any hardware store.

You can cut PVC with a hack saw or even a nylon string, and either one can be found in the cheap-o bin at the local hardware or department store. You can apply glue with a stick found in the yard if you need to glue something. You can tighten nuts and bolts with a cheap $1 pair of pliers or two (to hold both ends), again from the cheap-o bin. Surely SOMEBODY you know owns a drill if you need to drill a hole and don't want to spring for a £20 drill kit that includes bits.

Let me get this straight... You have no tools at all - not even the basic tools everybody needs to have around just for general household use. And you're willing to spend about £100 (US-$156) to buy a slider, but not willing to buy £16-50 (US-$25-80) worth of basic hand tools that can build a multitude of projects and do basic home repairs with - a basic toolkit that ANY person would normally have for thousands of reasons to use around the house or garage?
