Small Building at a Vineyard in South Tyrol

A viewer's eyes go to the brightest areas, which in this case are the borders at right, left and top.
All of the bright areas compete with the space around the window and the door for attention.

And, if you want c/c, upload bigger pictures.

Thanks for the edit Lew; you might like to run through what you did there: both for me and others who might be interested. It was uploaded at 1024 but TPF doesn't display it that large, which is why I include a link to Flickr, where you can view it in that size.

I toned down the bright areas and increased the mid tone contrast in PSE8, then tweaked the shadows and highlights in Picasa

Is this size more appropriate for C&C?

It may still be a bit too bright around the edges, I'm not sure. I did tone it down even more, but it ended up looking a bit flat.

Hi Peter, I prefer your own edit here. Lew is correct about how bright areas can draw the viewer's eyes - but in this case, it appears you had good reason for keeping them light. What Lew's edit does is darken the top so much that the gorgeous vines, loaded with grapes, disappear! And this is an important element here - it is a building at a vineyard. I love seeing the grapes as much as the stone exterior and the door. It's altogether one charming image and makes me want to be in it, sipping wine!!

Your own edit darkens the edges nicely, while retaining what you saw through the viewfinder that made you want to take the picture in the first place. Nice job!

How was the wine? :sexywink:

Thanks Terri, I appreciate the Feedback.

The wine was delicious: we have a bottle ready for Christmas Day :)

I still like travele's edit better; I find it draws the eye to the cabin a lot more...

That's fair enough, but click on the Flickr link under the original to see it on a black field. It Looks much better that way and I think part of the problem is the very bright white background on TPF.
