Smoke machine???

I've been eyeing the Tronix products for quite a while now. As of the moment, the battery pack I've bought never disappointed me. The thing is,
I will be having a long photo shoot and that I will be needing some kind of a smoke effect. Tronix sells smoke machine, Vulcan, that's the name I guess but the thing is its too expensive. I need a portable smoke machine, one that I can use outdoors. I think improvising would be a bit messy. What do you think? What are the things that I should consider when buying this kind of equipment? There's a lot of smoke machines on the net. I am considering the price, I don't need too much expensive smoke machines, but I am more after the quality and how reliable the product is.
