Smoke Shoot Round 2

Chris and I played around again today and I kept the feedback in mind from our first go round and these are my two favourite shots.
In the first his eyes weren't really lit (intentionally) and considering he is letting the smoke drift up into his eyes I give him huge kudos for getting the shot with eyes wide. In the second the smoke just played so nice and made the shot combined with the writing on his hat imho, I tried brightening/accenting the text a bit but it stuck out like a sore thumb.

OMG--I was about to say that I saw a classic "movie ghost" in that second shot! I guess deranged minds think alike!

lol! Well we do.... but ... my darling son is not smoking it in these shots, just a cigarette lol

I actually debated on shooting this because of some opinions around smoking. Ultimately I chose to shoot and share them because he asked me to try the shot with him, this is who he is right now (he chose the shades/clothes etc), and I like the results of the shoot

I'm not a huge fan of #2, it just sort of makes him look like he has a huge nose, and/or is wearing a masquerade mask. Doesn't look as much like smoke to me, because it just is happening to line up with facial layout. Maybe that's the point, and it's cool that it does that, but feels awkward as anything more than a cool study/phenomenon. Also the dude is just standing there with a covered expression not doing much.

#1 I love! Looks like smoke, doesn't cause weird side effects, the smoke splits up the image in a strong way and synergizes with the obvious focal point of the left eye. The expression + smoke are trippy and engaging and surreal. The jacket lapels balance the image better than in #2 and just in general feels way better framed and balanced and holds my attention in the middle.



Both of them are technically excellent. Might have missed eye focus a little bit on #2 (another 2/3 of a stop down or so maybe?), but whatever.
