Got these photos recently as I was stalking a different egret. He was closer, and didn't seem to be bothered by me, so I took a few shots of him.

Nice shots! Do you calibrate your monitor? They look a little dark to me... I pulled one down to test, and lightened it quite a bit without losing much detail! I love those birds, although I had one peck me once... and it buried that darn beak in me!

No, my monitor isn't calibrated, other than to adjust by sight using test patterns from some monitor calibration web site. The background was fairly dark in real life... it was a very foggy/cloudy morning and the sun was having a hard time cutting thru it. Sorry to hear about you getting pecked... at least the bird was close enough to get a shot of!!!

On monitor calibration; no one has comment on colours, just exposure and I'd say it's a little dark myself (but uncalibrated here too). You can do exposure based off histogram though so calibration isn't completely essential there if you have a simple aim like just clipping highlights.
