Screwed up posting, my internet is being a little difficult. These are some new shots, I think my eye has improved a bit.

(1) A picture I took at Yosemite. I wish I had framed El Capitan a little more to the left.

(2) I wish I had used a larger aperture to get more of the fallen tree in focus.

(3) I like this shot.

(4) I like this shot too, especially how the vine frames the fallen tree's roots.

(5) I don't usually do portraits, and this is probably too dark. I like the contrast in the model's pants, as well as the contrast between the tall grass and the tree line.

Oh man, powasky, this photography is horrible!

...is it really that bad? Should I have found a pre-beginner forum to post my miserable snapshots in?

#2 and #4 don't do a lot for me. I really like #1 although the gradient across the sky could be seen as a bit distracting, though personally I don't mind it. #3 I like, though I can't really say why. It doesn't have the greatest composition or most interesting subject matter, but it just has a nice look to it, kind of serene I guess.
#5 is a good shot though I wouldn't call it a portrait. You could probably crop off the tree at the right of the frame, I feel it takes away from the subject. I like you b&w conversion though.
