i'm drawn to any night photos with blurred car lights.

the second one... i don't know what panning is.. but i'm guessing it has something to do with how you got the first guy in focus, but everything else isnt?

Right. You basically track focus while moving the camera in the direction of a moving subject while taking the photo in order to express motion. The shutter speed needs to be slow enough to capture blur in the background.

I really would love to see what MLeek, KmH, Bitter Jeweller and Derrel have to say about these. I'm open to all comments though.

Beautiful work on the first one. I usually never shoot at SoBe since it's too crowded for my taste but i'll have to give it a go this weekend. We should shoot together sometime.

The first one has good color and seems like a good exposure. Don't do too much long exposure so don't have much to say. The second one, the face of the guy in focus is great. I personally would crop it to a vertical orientation with just the guy that is in focus.

Crazy, just got a copy of "Exploring the Light" by Rick Sammon.. there is nearly an identical shot on page 69 as your first one.. he's maybe standing 20 or so feet to the right of where you shot though. I like the sky better in yours Hah.. was it earlier on in the night or did you up the low tones a bit?... Too bad the C isn't iluminated, maybe you could borrow some illumination from the "O"

Apparently it's a pretty popular spot for photographers. I shot there on Friday night as well and there was another guy with a tripod not far from me at the time. I really wanted to include the Johnny Rockets sign in my shot since that's the building where Tony Montana's brother got chopped up with a chainsaw
