Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I am currently running a nikon D-80 and have Photoshop CS-3 (I think). I need to redo my computer and wanted to see what everyone's suggestions are for PC editing software? Also, secondary to the software suggestions... any suggestions on where I can get some training on said software. I can do some very basic editing myself, but otherwise I suck at it.

Thanks for all the help.

Well cs3 is good, can ya swap it to your new setup? I am not sure you can upgrade it anymore because now it's subscription.

Lightroom is my favourite editor, but it is for getting the best out of your photos, not graphic design things like swapping heads or any trick stuff that Photoshop can do.

As above said, you tube and Google do good lessons. I enjoy buying the magazines with say 10 Photoshop projects and trying them out.

I am more interested in the best photo editing software, not swapping heads necessarily. Can lightroom splice together HDR/panoramic images?

I don't think Lightroom can do panoramic or hdr. You could possibly buy a plugin for them.

Adobe stopped updating CS 3 as soon as CS 4 was released.

CS 3 is Photoshop 10.

Today we can get Photoshop CC 2014 (Photoshop 15) and Lightroom 5 as Adobe's Photography Program for individuals @ $9.99 a month or $119.88 prepaid for 1 year.

But, today's Photoshop is a 64-bit application while CS 3 was a 32-bit application.
If you have a 32-bit computer it can't run today's 64-bit Photoshop CC.

You need to know the specs of your new PC and make sure the software is compatible before buying.

As for software, this is what I run

Light Room 5 (used to do all my basic editing and filing and or water marks)
CS6 (used for all my designing/creating or used to fix issues with a photo)
Photomatix Pro 5 (used for HDR imaging)

The PC isn't new by any means. I am running a quad core i7 w/ 6gig of RAM. My CPU is running oddly slow, so I might as well wipe the entire machine.

Photoshop and lightroom are a subscription software?

Maybe try Photoshop cc and Photoshop elements 12. Both can be downloaded for trial versions, 30 days to play with them.

on a tangent
Many people get adware and other viruses on their computers which can slow a computer down greatly.

I normally run
tdsskiler <-- run this first, then in any order after that
adwcleaner
spybot
trendmicro
microsoft security essentials (since you have XP)
Hitman Pro

they're all free
and I run *all* of them
one at a time.

there's not one virus tool that gets rid of all the junk out there.

most of the time there's enough junk slowing down computers it's incredible.

I've ran a few of those in the past, but it's almost just as easy to wipe the system and start over.
